About The Site and Myself

When I was young, and after we had a film photography unit in middle school, I really started to get into photography. We had a fully-fledged darkroom and I remember spending quite a bit of time in there. I started buying any film camera I could get my hands on, other hobbies came and went and I sold most of my cameras and didn’t look back for over a decade. Many years later while in college I needed an elective class, so I thought an intro to photography course might be interesting. The first unit was film and I was enamored once again.

My family has always been collectors and I am no different. This led to a sizable camera collection and my passion for film only grew. As you can guess, friends and family did not want to hear about the intricacies of cameras and their histories, so I decided to volunteer at my college working in the darkroom. I met some wonderful people and made some very like-minded friends. We occasionally talked about the larger film focused websites, and this eventually spawned the idea of creating a website myself.

I’ve been writing pieces and building Aperture Preview since mid 2018, first publishing the site in January of 2019. Almost every day I run across some interesting or obscure topic that I would love to write about, and I see no stop in content any time soon. A few things to note about the site. All pictures here are taken on film and developed by me, even the pictures of the cameras for the articles. I write one to a couple of pieces a month, give or take a few days. But lastly and most importantly, I strive to keep this a passion project and somewhat of a resource for people. I will never place advertisements on the site, as I want to keep this as enjoyable for the user as possible. However, if you would like to donate you can do so Here, and it would be much appreciated. If you want to see some of my curated work or if you want to leave any feedback, do so on my Instagram or contact me Here. Thank you for your interest, and I hope you enjoy the site.
